City council members plan to tighten animal control ordinances after recent increases in the number of dogs being labeled "dangerous" or "vicious" by the city. Tonight's city council meeting is set to focus on 13 proposed revisions to Title Three of the Carbondale Revised Code relating to animals.

According to the Supreme Court, Americans have the right to own firearms for hunting as well as for self-defense.
On June 26, the court case, District of Columbia vs. Heller, eliminated D.C.'s 32-year ban of handguns.
The ban, which took effect in 1976 in a city struggling with violence, outlawed private ownership of firearms.

UIC Library reopens archive, releases documents
The University of Illinois at Chicago reopened its Chicago Annenberg Challenge archive on Tuesday, August 26, releasing its documents. Among those released were documents regarding UIC Prof. Bill Ayers.
The Challenge archive was temporarily closed during August after a request by the National Review was made.

UI Professor William Reisinger remembers former colleague Arthur Miller as "one of the most distinguished scholars" in political science and credits him for enhancing the field at the UI.

Meat was stolen from a UNC fraternity house and then returned Wednesday, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Someone broke into the Sigma Alpha Epsilon house at 112 Fraternity Court and removed $200 worth of meat. Damage of $200 to the house also was reported.

An incident of larceny and breaking and entering was reported at 5:16 p.m. Friday at 102 Fraternity Court, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Reports state that $4,100 worth of goods were stolen, including two IBM laptops and an Xbox 360. The building was unsecured when the property was removed, reports state.
