Dear Hannah,
My 3 year anniversary with my girlfriend is coming up in about a month and I can't think of anything really special to do for her. I don't just want to take her out for a nice dinner. What do you think I should do?
-Out of Ideas
First of all, it's best to know that whatever you do, and however it turns out, it's just one day. The best moments you'll have with your girlfriend will almost never be the planned out ones, but rather the fun, spontaneous things that come with a long-term relationship. There are a lot of different ways that you can make her day special-keep in mind that the fact that you remember your anniversary is already a big start! If you don't just want to take her out for dinner, have you thought of unique dinner options? If you live near a lake or river, look for dinner cruises. The price range for dinner cruises is pretty broad. They can be anywhere from $50 to $300. Usually the price is worth the sightseeing and food you'll get.
What kind of live theatre and shows do you have in your city? Guys tend to overlook this option, either because they forget it or they think it's cliché. However, an amazing Broadway musical or new ballet in town can really make for a fun date, especially if you take the time to get dressed up and have a nice dinner beforehand. Make sure, though, if you are taking her to a show that it will truly be something she enjoys. Just because the opera is in town doesn't mean you should go. Go to something she'll love or don't go at all. Look around in the paper or online for things happening around your area and take advantage of what your town or city has to offer.
If you are looking for less expensive options, there are often really fun, cheap things going on in a big city (so if you live in a smaller town, you will probably have to trek to the nearest big city). Local bands play for little to nothing and the atmosphere will much more subdued than going to a huge concert.
