With the pressures of graduation looming in the not so distant future, Wittenberg's Career Center is working to ease the transition for its graduating seniors as well as educate those students with a few more college years ahead of them.

Judith Schimpf, who works in the Career Center, hosted a "Finding a Job in Media and Entertainment" workshop Tuesday the 21st which focused on networking and building resumes.

Schimpf stressed networking as a necessary tool when searching for a job. She also talked about the importance of Wittenberg's job fairs and recruitment days as networking opportunities.

Another way Wittenberg students can network is through the Tiger Career Advisors Network (TCAN), which can be found through the university website. This site is home to career and internship searches, as well as a network of alumni who have volunteered to act as mentors to those students entering job fields similar to their own.

Common resume errors were also discussed at the workshop. Schimpf said that the failure to summarize the key content was the number one resume error.

"Giving equal billing to all jobs, burying your selling points, and overlooking achievements and what you've learned are the most common errors made on resumes," said Schimpf.

Schimpf also said that grammatical errors are very common on resumes. Using inconsistent or wrong verb tense is a common mistake among Wittenberg students' resumes.

These workshops are divided by job field and were also offered during the fall semester. They are open to all Wittenberg students, and workshop information can be found in the weekly events email and calendar.
