This week's Tiger of the Week is sophomore Laura Fender of the Wittenberg women's volleyball team.
Fender, the starting libero for the Tigers, helped the Tigers to a 3-1 record and second place finish in the season-opening ASICS Invitational. Fender was one of two Tigers placed on the all-tournament team after leading the team in digs over the four game span (Junior Emily Bell was also named to the team). Fender's best performance of the weekend came in Saturday's victory over Muskingum, where she recorded 22 digs.
As a freshman, Fender stepped into the starting lineup and led the team in digs, averaging just over 5.5 per game. Her success is part of the reason Wittenberg was picked to win the NCAC regular season title, and began the season ranked number two in the nation.
Fender is from Toledo, Ohio, where she attended St. Ursula.
The team will travel to Washington University in St. Louis this weekend before hosting their first home tournament on September 15 and 16.
