As the fall sports teams ehead towards the middle of their 2006 seasons, Wittenberg athletics have proven their dominance and strength, and hope to carry their momentum into conference play.

Below is a team-by-team recap of 2006 fall sports season.

Football:

Having started their season on somewhat shaky ground, the football team looks to go into conference play dominating. With an 0-2 start, and losing by a narrow margin to in-state rival Dayton, the football team battles out of conference rival Alma at home this Saturday. Looking to start a win streak, the Tigers need to beat Alma in order to get some momentum going as they start conference play the next week at Wooster.

Women's Soccer:

The women's soccer team has come out in the 2006 season roaring. Holding a 4-2 record after a recent defeat of Washington and Jefferson, the Tigers start their conference play against Kenyon on October 3. Picked to finish third in the conference behind rivals Denison and Ohio Wesleyan, the Tigers hope once again to vie for the conference title.

Volleyball:

The Volleyball team, who started the season ranked number two in the nation, hopes once again to be a competitor for the national title. Holding a 10-4 record and 2-0 in the NCAC, despite having no seniors on their team, the Tigers most recently hosted the annual Border Battle. Competing against Alma, Calvin, Adrian, and Hope, beating all but Calvin, the Tigers will face their third conference match up of the season against Oberlin on Friday, September 22, at 8 p.m..

Cross Country:

Both the men's and women's cross country teams have already shown improvement over the 2005 seasons. With the women placing first at their annual Wittenberg Invitational and the men placing second, the Tigers have high expectations for the remainder of their season. Most recently, the Tigers competed at Cedarville, and both men's and women's teams took ninth place. Both teams look to be competitive in conference match ups. The Tigers' next meet will be at Earlham for the Earlham Invitational on Saturday, September 30.

Men's Soccer:

The men's soccer team, like other fall sports teams, has goals of winning the conference. Picked to finish second in the conference, just behind Ohio Wesleyan, the Tigers currently hold a 3-4-1 record. Recently participating in the Kiwanis Classic at Wilmington College, tying Calvin College and losing to Centre, the Tigers remain competitive early in the season. Their conference play begins Saturday, September 23, at Denison.

Field Hockey:

The women's field hockey team, who lost their first conference game in school history in 2005, hope once again to dominate the conference. Picked to finish third in conference behind rivals Wooster and Oberlin, the Tigers have goals of winning the conference. Currently 2-3, with an 0-1 conference record, the Tigers next face conference foe Earlham on Thursday, September 21.
