This week's Tiger of the Week is junior volleyball player Sarah Matesich. Matesich , a two year starter for the Tigers at setter, has helped to lead the volleyball team to a 34-7 record, and to a second consecutive trip to Salem, Virginia for the NCAA Divison III National Quarterfinals.
Matesich has been a consistent performer for the Tigers throughout the season.
Most recently, in the Great Lakes Regional Tournament Matesich provided the leadership and poise that the Tigers needed to advance past the first round and defeat Brockport State 3-1. Matesich entered the match in game number four after resting for the majority of the match and provided the spark needed to close out Brockport State.
In the second round of the regional, the Tigers faced well-known conference foe Hiram. Matesich came up big again and had 31 assists, three kills, and four digs to put the Tigers past the Terriers, winning 3-2.
In the regional final game against Calvin, Matesich led the team once again, recording 21 assists, giving the Tigers the 3-0 win and moving them on to the quarterfinals.
Matesich was a tough competitior in all three of these games despite the fact that she has a stress fracture in her foot, an injury she has been playing through the past few weeks.
Matesich was also just named to the All-NCAC Second Team, and was on the NCAC All-Tournament team.
Matesich is an education major from Granville, Ohio where she attended Newark Catholic.
