Women's Basketball: Currently holding a record of 8-8 and 5-3 in the NCAC, the Tigers need to look to senior leadership to continue their quest of winning a conference title. Recently, the Tigers lost to the Battling Bishops of Ohio Welseyan, 61-51. Seniors Kathy Hittle and Rachel Clark-Haggy were strong contributors, but that was not enough as the Tigers dropped their second straight conference game. Hoping to improve their luck and get over the .500 mark, the Tigers have eight conference games left on their schedule. The Tigers are currently tied with Ohio Wesleyan for second in the conference, as the Big Red of Denison securely hold on to first place.
Men's Basketball: The men's basketball team, for the most part, has been performing consistently and coming up successful. Despite a key conference loss at Ohio Wesleyan, the Tigers are still 6-2 in the NCAC, losing their only other conference game to nationally ranked Wooster. Senior post player Dane Borchers and sophomore guard Gregg Hil have come up big for the Tigers in the past six games. During the Tigers' annual Holiday Tournament, Borchers was named MVP and helped the Tigers to a tournament championship. In addition to this, Borchers continually keeps the Tigers on track with scoring, and has been the leading scorer 14 out of 16 games this season.Hill most recently helped the Tigers in a win over the Gators of Allegheny by posting a season high 18 points. The Tigers look to continue to improve and hopefully win a conference title as they also have eight conference games left on their schedule including one on the road against their arch-rival Wooster.
Men & Women's Swimming and Diving: Having a very successful 2006-2007 season, the men and women's swim teams close out their regular season action this Saturday at home against Case Western. Having lost very close meets to Wooster and Denison, freshman performance has enabled the Tigers to continue their dominance in the pool. Freshmen Katie Johnson and Adeline Brym pace the Tigers on the women's side while Taylor Smith and Neil Anderson have helped to lead the men to a very successful season. Both the men and women's team are also ranked highly on the CollegeSwimming.com poll. Both teams' major test of the season will come early in February during the NCAC Championships in Canton, Ohio.
Indoor Track and Field:
So far this season, the women's track and field team has been dominated by junior Nicole Bailey. Finishing first in the long jump at Capital and winning three events at Rose-Hulman, Bailey has helped the Tigers to have a strong start . On the men's side, senior Andy Karcher and sophomores Erik Larkin and Gabe Savage were also individual winners at the Rose Hulman meet. Both teams, who have a rather short season, will look to these leaders or success and momentum to carry into the outdoor season.
