Tigers' winning weekend

The Wittenberg Football team opened their season with a victory over Olivet defeating the Comets 22-10. The Tigers' offense was led by junior quarterback Aaron Huffman, who lit up the sky throwing for 231 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Corey Weber led the ground attack for the Tigers rushing for 74 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Patrick Williams led all receivers with 117 yards. Defensively, the Tigers were led by junior linebacker Kyle Lohrman, who tallied 10 total tackles, including one for a three-yard loss. Sophomores Manny Rodriguez and Brad McKinley also made their presence known, recording eight tackles each. The Tigers will have next week off before hosting Washington University on Sept. 20. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Men's Soccer had great success at the Keltner Classic this past weekend, defeating Hanover on Saturday by a score of 4-1 and Trine on Sunday 4-3. Senior Matt Borland led the Tigers on offense recording a hat trick against Hanover and tallying one assist against Trine. Men's Soccer improves to a 3-0 record.

Women's Soccer also had a productive weekend, improving to a 3-0-1 record. Senior Corey Shubitowski scored the only goal of the game against DePauw University as the Tigers won on the road 1-0. Saturday's game against Emory proved to be a tougher challenge, ending in a 0-0 tie. Senior Jordan Bamberger came up big with eight saves in the game and recorded her fourth straight shut out.

The Tiger Volleyball team won three matches in a row on Saturday, improving their record to 4-0 on the season. They opened the day defeating Millikin 3-1. Senior Jessica Kimble and junior Kate Snead recorded 13 kills apiece in the victory. They played Mount St. Joseph second, which they won again by a score of 3-1. Junior Katherine Yuskewich recorded 11 kills for the Tigers while junior libero Sarah Heider tallied 27 digs on defense. In the final match of the day, the Tigers defeated Thiel by a score of 3-1. Snead led the offense with 10 kills.

Both Cross Country teams participated in the Wittenberg Invitational on Saturday. The men's team finished second behind Cedarville as Senior Gabe Savage finished eighth for the Tigers with a time of 29:16. The women's team finished first overall, taking seven of the top 10 spots. Freshman Darcy Dubuc came in first for the Tigers and first in the women's race with a time of 21:46.

Saturday's field hockey game at Mary Washington was cancelled due to weather.
