On Oct. 25 there will be an event called "Walk for Wishes" to help grant a wish for a little girl suffering from renal failure. The wish child's name is Cambrie. She is seven years old, and her wish is to go to Disney World. The members of Chi Omega are hoping that they will be able to raise the remainder of the money needed to grant the wish to Cambrie.
Senior Ashley Manson, president of Chi Omega, said that Make-A-Wish has been Chi Omega's philanthropy project for five years.
"The Chapter has always wanted to grant a wish, but we never raised enough money…This year we made it our goal to grant a wish," said Manson.
The members of the Chi Omega sorority believe it will be the first time that a wish has been granted at Wittenberg. They have invited everyone on campus to participate in this memorable experience.
"This wish is being made possible by the funds raised through our annual Wing Dinner, donations from family, friends, businesses, and the Walk for Wishes 5k on Oct. 25," Manson said.
After the 5k, there will be the wish granting ceremony, followed by a reception with entertainment and food. Manson is trying to spread the word around to everyone, and one of the ways she is doing this is by challenging professors.
"We are trying to challenge the professors to encourage their students to participate in the Walk for Wishes or bringing in a $1 donation for some kind of bonus point or pizza party," Manson said.
Laura Joseph, a junior, is the philanthropy chair of Chi Omega and came up with the idea of Walk for Wishes. Joseph said that she found inspiration through the Reggae Run that she participated in last year. The run benefitted the Make-A-Wish foundation and ended with a little girl's wish being granted.
"I was really inspired by this and decided it would be a cool idea to bring to our campus; granting a wish to this little girl means so much to me, and everyone else in our house," said Joseph. "I hope granting this wish will bring the Wittenberg and Springfield community together, to help not only Cambrie and her family, but aslo the Make-A-Wish foundation as a whole."
