The Wittenberg women's track team placed third out of nine at the DePauw Invitational on Saturday with help from freshman distance runners Darcy Dubuc and Anna Henry, who went one and two, respectively, in the 5000 meters, both finishing in just over 19 minutes. Junior Lauren Shumaker and freshman Lizzie Mauser also made strong contributions, taking second and third, respectively, in the 55 meter hurdles.
The men's track team finished fifth out of 10 teams at the DePauw Invitational on Saturday. Senior distance runner Gabe Savage won both the 1000 meters and the mile, while senior Erik Larken placed second in the high jump with a height of six feet two inches, and third in the triple jump at 41 feet 10 inches. Senior Mark King also went just under 53 seconds in the 400 meter dash.
After a disappointing loss to Wabash last Wednesday, the men's basketball team bounced back at home on Saturday to beat Kenyon 68-44 and push their record to 9-7 in the NCAC and 13-12 overall. Kevin Murray led all scorers with 19 points in 22 minutes as the Tigers went 9 for 20 from behind the three point arc.
Saturday also saw the women's basketball team rebound from a previous loss at home against Capital. The team travelled to Oberlin where they clobbered the Yeowomen 91-50. Junior Stephanie Boardman had 19 points, going 9-10 from the stripe. Freshman Sarah Watson scored 11 points, while senior Rachel Dixon added 10. Freshman Allie Leopard recorded three steals in the win.
The Wittenberg Men's Lacrosse team opened up their regular season in encouraging fashion, beating Sewanee in Nashville, TN, 13-3. The Tigers rode the backs of sophomore attackman Matt Lord, who finished with eight goals, and sophomore goalie Mark DeOliviera, who recorded 12 saves.
