Wittenberg alumna Kelly Eggers graduated in 2009 with a major in Communication and minors in Journalism and Management. Kelly now lives in New York and is the personal assistant to Jean Chatzky at the TODAY Show. The Torch emailed her a few questions and gained some insight into her big-time job experiences so far.

How did you score such a sweet job?

Haha, it IS a sweet job!! One of my good friends from high school went to college with Jean's old assistant, Sarah. Vicky (the friend) put me in touch with Sarah, who was planning on leaving the position with Jean, and asked if I'd like to submit my résumé.

What exactly does your job entail?

One third administrating, one third reporting and one third babysitting. I manage Jean's calendar- this includes all of her meetings and presentations. I respond to each accordingly, and then put them into a shared online calendar.

I also handle requests for her books or products, including 6 books with Franklin Covey and a brand new line of financial organization products that's on sale now at Target.

I also have the opportunity to do a lot of reporting, particularly for her website. There are different columns posted daily, including posts such as "Ask Jean Tuesdays" and "Entrepreneur Fridays."

It's pretty awesome, to say the least, to have the opportunity to publish my work weekly. Words can't convey how exciting it is to be able to say that during my first job out of college!! I really lucked out with that part of it. I have the chance to build a really strong, published portfolio, and have a whole lot of experience in learning how to publish it online, which is huge in this day and age. That's where a lot of journalism is happening now.

Jean's kids are a much simpler part of my job. Jean has two children (they're 12 and 15), and when Jean has things to do in the city and can't be home, I take her kids to their tutors, horseback riding, rehearsals, and orthodontist appointments.
